Our Process

Step 1
Fireproofing & Waterproofing Check
Duct X CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep checking the venting system at the CSIA Training academy

Our team will use a snake camera with a detachable screen to carefully check that your chimney and fireplace are fireproof and the exterior part of your chimney is waterproof. This includes checking the bricks, mortar and other materials used in the construction of your chimney, as well as assessing the condition of the chimney lining.

Step 2
Chimney Flue Inspection

We'll examine the chimney flue using the snake camera with a detachable screen, which will allow you and us to see if there's any damage to the chimney flue. We'll make sure that your chimney flue is creosote free and crack-free. We'll also look for any downdraft issues that might cause flow problems.

Step 3
Firebox Inspection
Chimney Inspection

We'll thoroughly inspect the firebox (where the fire is burned) to ensure that it's in good condition, checking for any cracks or damage that might compromise its safety and integrity. We'll make sure that the firebox is properly sealed and that there are no signs of wear or tear that could put you and your family at risk.

Step 4
Roof Inspection

If accessible, we'll get on the roof and thoroughly inspect the flashing, cap, chase, crown, and brickwork. Flashing is the metal that surrounds the chimney and prevents water from entering the home. The cap, chase, and crown prevent rain, snow, and animals from entering the chimney.

Step 5
Drone Inspection
Chimney Drone Inspection

Our state-of-the-art drone is equipped with a 4K high-resolution camera and advanced navigation technology, allowing for detailed inspections of even the hardest-to-reach chimneys. The footage captured by the drone can be easily analyzed and shared with homeowners. *In the case of 1 story homes, we'll inspect by foot.

Step 6
Walk-Through

Our team of experienced technicians will take the time to walk you through the entire inspection process, ensuring that you have a full understanding of any issues that may be present in your chimney or fireplace. We'll explain in detail any problems that are found, providing you with a clear understanding of what needs to be done to address them.

Step 7
Repair Estimate
Repair Estimate

If any repairs are needed, we'll provide you with an estimate on the spot, listing all the necessary repairs and their associated costs. We'll also explain the urgency of each repair, so you can make an informed decision about how to proceed. We have no intention to waist you money! Only the urgent repairs will be recommended.

Step 8
Timeframe & Cost
Measuring fireplace panels

The inspection process for your fireplace will take approximately 30 minutes. Once the inspection is complete, we will provide you with an estimate for the work that needs to be done. If you approve the estimate, our team will begin the work right away, ensuring that your fireplace is ready for use as soon as possible.

Step 9
Deductible

The inspection fee is fully deductible and will go towards any service or repair for your chimney and fireplace. We'll provide you with all the necessary documentation, so you can claim the deduction on your taxes. We believe that an investment in the safety and longevity of your chimney and fireplace is worth it, and we'll do our best to make it as affordable as possible.

How Often Should I Clean My Chimney?

According to CSIA & NFPA, your chimney should be cleaned or at least inspected once a year. Spring or summertime would be ideal for cleaning your chimney since it is before the burning season. Even if you don’t use your chimney regularly, birds may build nests in the flue, or other types of deterioration could make the chimney unsafe.

In addition to chimney cleaning, we also provide a wide range of chimney repair services. From fixing leaks and cracks, to replacing chimney liners and rebuilding chimneys, our team has the experience and skills to handle all of your chimney needs.

At Duct X, we take pride in our commitment to customer satisfaction and safety. Our goal is to provide you with the highest quality chimney services at an affordable price. Contact us today to schedule your appointment and experience the Duct X difference.

Chimney Cap Replacement

At Duct X, we take chimney cap replacements seriously. The primary purpose of a chimney cap is to keep water, debris, and animals out of your chimney. Water can cause significant damage to the chimney’s masonry, leading to costly repairs. A cap also prevents animals such as birds, raccoons, and squirrels from entering your chimney and potentially causing blockages or nesting, which can lead to safety hazards. Additionally, a chimney cap prevents sparks from escaping the chimney, reducing the risk of fire and keeping your home and family safe.

The lifespan of a chimney cap can vary depending on several factors, including weather conditions, the type of material used, and the quality of installation. A cap that is damaged or deteriorated may need to be replaced immediately, while a cap that is showing signs of wear and tear should be replaced before it causes further damage. Signs of damage include rust, cracks, or missing pieces. Additionally, if you’ve experienced water damage or an animal intrusion, it’s important to have your cap inspected to ensure it’s functioning properly.
